Read about our upcoming 150th celebration and giving to the Legacy Fund.
For almost 150 years, members of United Methodist Women have fed the hungry, healed the sick, educated millions, changed laws and policies and transformed lives. What a great legacy we have inherited!
But some ask: 'Why, in the 21st century, a women’s church organization is still relevant?'
Because, in the 21st century, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence.
Because, in the 21st century, the more hours of television a girl watches, the fewer options she believes she has for her life.
Because, in the 21st century, there are more slaves on earth than at any other time in the history of the planet.
We are indeed leaving our daughters and granddaughters with a legacy filled with so many challenges it can seem overwhelming.
So while, in the 21st century, we celebrate 150 years of mission work, we are called to prepare for the next 150. An endowment called The Legacy Fund will lay the financial foundation for future generations of United Methodist Women.
The Legacy Fund is a forward-thinking permanent endowment with income dedicated to strengthening United Methodist Women's total program of mission. Our service, advocacy and transformative learning opportunities equip members to be agents of change
We promote the empowerment of women that is essential to addressing the root causes of so many conditions harming women, children and youth.
This fund will also enhance the distribution of grants, scholarships and coordination with mission personnel and support for finance technological updates like operating systems for data and communication, and more.
Ensuring a regular source of support for these core expenses will free future generations to see their Mission Giving connect directly with the needs of women, children and youth. It will allow our successors to promote Mission Giving in a totally different way.
We invite you to be a part of this legacy as we begin our five year celebration of the 150th anniversary of the organization. This campaign launched at Assembly 2014, will be celebrated at Assembly 2018, and will culminate in 2019, the 150th year of Methodist women in mission.
This is a pivotal time for United Methodist Women members to consider the question:
What will my legacy be?
In the 21st century, members of United Methodist Women are breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse. YOU are breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse.
In the 21st century, members of United Methodist Women are providing academic education and agricultural training. YOU are providing academic education and agricultural training.
In the 21st century, members of United Methodist Women are providing safe housing for women.
YOU are providing safe housing for women.
Giving to mission is one way YOU put faith, hope and love in action. Give to the Legacy Fund: One-time, monthly, quarterly and annual options are available. Consider an increase of your annual pledge to mission.
Planned Giving: Long-term plans help build the foundation for a strong future. United Methodist Women members are encouraged to include this legacy through wills or estate planning.
Major Giving: Members who have the means to make sizable contributions to The Legacy Fund can structure these gifts over the next three to five years.
These financial steps, small and large, add up to a legacy transformed…. A world transformed.
We thank you for being a part of the legacy yesterday, today, and for the next 150 years.
