Announcing a New Regional Missionary in Latin America

Announcing a New Regional Missionary in Latin America
Andrea Rocha Riley Soares

United Methodist Women’s International Ministries announces the addition of a new Regional Missionary for Leadership Development in Latin America, as of August 1, 2015. Andrea Rocha Riley Soares will take on this work with the United Methodist Women National Office, connecting to Methodist, ecumenical and grassroots women throughout the region on behalf of United Methodist Women.

The work of the Regional Missionary for Leadership Development in Latin America comprises support and promotion of leadership for all Methodist women, identifying issues and concerns of gender and gender equity within Latin America, fostering abundant life, women's empowerment in church and community leadership, as well as security in income and education for the uprooted and marginalized.

Soares, like other United Methodist Women Regional Missionaries, will be a link between the United Methodist Women National Office and mission partners in the region as she represents all United Methodist Women in the United States while at work in Latin America. She will share both her work and the issues that impact faith and justice for women, children and youth in Latin America with United Methodist Women and its members through the United Methodist Women website, Facebook and response magazine. In other words, she will be a wonderful addition to the work and mission of United Methodist Women! Soares is from Brazil and lives in the Sao Paulo area. She is a probationary pastor in The Methodist Church of Brazil and will be ordained an elder in November of this year. The Sao Paulo area will continue to be her base for her regional work.  Soares is youthful, energetic and deeply committed to serving Christ through mission work with women, children and youth.
