/Assembly: Quadrennial gathering of United Methodist Women/Workshop Resources/Global Praise

Global Praise

Leader: The Rev. Debra Tyree, Global Ministries

Through music and songs, this workshop offers opportunities for participants to experience songs from different regions of the world. This workshop seeks to help enhance the worship experience in United Methodist Women events including United Methodist Women Sundays in the local churches.

What Is the Issue?

Why is it important to sing the songs of the world in our worship and devotions? How do we choose the music? How do we introduce the music to our United Methodist Women group and congregation?

We will look at the following:

  • Global song – why do we sing it?
  • The role of global song in worship, circle devotions, and personal study
  • Practical tips on choosing and leading global song
  • Learn several easy-to sing “congregational-friendly” songs to take home and lead in any setting.

  • Obrigado, Senhor / We are thankful, O Lord

United Methodist Women Connection

United Methodist Women has long had a commitment to invite the global community to take part in its programs, mission studies, events and music. The Global Praise program of Global Ministries has been a partner in these efforts and has assisted in providing rich choices for sharing in music from around the world. United Methodist Women members use Global Praise resources to enhance their local church ministries and programs, especially their annual United Methodist Women’s Sundays.

Suggestions for Action

  • Time will be included at the end of the session to talk about specific issues the participants may have in their setting.
  • How do you sing God’s song with the world in your context?
