Each year, United Methodists prepare for faithful living and action by participating in Mission u, a transformative education program that offers study on biblically grounded curricula. These curricula are intended to motivate, inform and enrich our commitment to be in ministry for a more just and equitable world, locally and globally.
Using a train-the-trainer model, study leaders attend national training events to prepare to facilitate curricula at the United Methodist regional (conference) level. Those who attend these conference Mission u events are then encouraged to lead the curricula in their district and local groups.
Most Mission u events are 1-3 days long and take place at churches, college campuses, retreat centers or hotels. Sadly, due to the COVID-19 crisis, in-person Mission u events were cancelled for 2020. However, this map shows the location of 2020 Conference Mission u events had they taken place.
In place of in-person events in 2020, each of the Mission u curricula were adapted for virtual or at home learning or other online learning opportunities were offered to deepen our learning on related issues. Those adaptations and learning alternatives can be found here.
In 2021 Mission u will offer the following studies:
- Finding Peace in an Anxious World
- Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools
- Bearing Witness in the Kin-dom: Living Into the Church’s Moral Witness through Radical Discipleship
- A Youth Study: Becoming Peacemakers in a Culture of Violence
- A Children’s Study: Responding to Violence
