Baby Hats for Assembly

Baby Hats for Assembly
Dorothy Humphrey and the baby caps she crocheted for the Assembly 2018 baby hat collection.

Dorothy Humphrey is an awesome, talented, dedicated, spiritual and loving woman. We are so pleased to call her a friend.

Humphrey joined Arlington Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1961 with her husband and three boys. They had moved to Florida from Ohio. Humphrey taught Sunday school and worked in the children’s division. She joined the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She sang in the choir.

When her boys got older Humphrey went into the workforce. The church was fortunate to have her as financial secretary for 15 years. When her husband became ill she decided to retire. But she hasn’t retired from her church involvement. She’s taught adult Sunday school classes and held several leadership positions for United Methodist Women at the local and district level. She does beautiful handwork and headed up our project to provide needlepoint kneeling pillows for the church’s altar rail. She and several women worked many hours on the pillows, which we use for prayer, weddings and communion.

Recently Humphrey, 94, crocheted 166 baby caps for the Assembly 2018 baby hat collection. Her love and dedication is such a blessing.

Marie Rivera is a member of United Methodist Women at Arlington United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
