Join the Thursdays in Black Campaign

Make a pledge to work toward a world without rape and violence. Join the Thursdays in Black global initiative launched by Ecumenical Women at the UN to end all sexual and gender-based violence. Take a pledge on social media and help end violence against women, girls and vulnerable communities.

Ecumenical Women was created to advocate for the rights of women at the annual U.N. Commission on the Status of Women. It was born out of the Beijing Platform for Action to aid the collaboration of progressive churches and ecumenical organizations. The global Thursdays in Black movement grew out of the World Council of Churches Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women awareness campaign (1988-1998), in which stories of rape as a weapon of war, gender injustice, abuse and violence became visible.

United Methodist Women is one of the founders of Ecumenical Women at the UN. We believe in the mutuality of mission, and that by working with  other faith-based groups that share our concerns we amplify putting an end to oppression, discrimination, injustice, abuse and violence in the world.

Join the campaign and post your pictures, prayers and inspirations on social media using the hashtag #thursdaysinblack.

Take the Pledge today. Visit: www.ecumenicalwomenun.org/thursdays-in-black

Together, we can make a difference.
