United Methodist Women Invited to Report on Mission Study

United Methodist Women was invited to attend the fourth Roma Consultation in Cluj, Romania, and report on results and responses from the two-year mission study on the Roma people, held throughout the United States. Carol Van Gorp, United Methodist Women National Office Executive for International Ministries, represented United Methodist Women at the meeting in Romania, which took place from February 5-8.

Roma ministries are in place within the Central Conference of Central and Southern Europe and constitute part of the development of The United Methodist Church in this part of Europe. All in attendance were interested to learn the response of United Methodist Women to the Roma Study. Copies of the study book and accompanying DVD were shared and welcomed by our United Methodist sisters and brothers in Europe.

Van Gorp reported that, “While no one was surprised at the responses of U.S. United Methodists to the Roma Study, there was an expression of appreciation for the work done by United Methodist Women to develop the Roma study and all accompanying articles and photos. Appreciation was especially offered for the work and witness of Paul Jeffrey."
