WOLA Thanks United Methodist Women

A Grant from United Methodist Women Supports Research and Communications at Washington Office on Latin America

WOLA Thanks United Methodist Women

Sometimes advocacy and activism can be a more quiet endeavor. The gathering of reliable and thorough information is a powerful tool in the effort to make the world a better place for women and children.

Trustworthy research and information can have an enormous impact on people’s lives. Responsible research can help create movements, can lead to changes in laws, and supports and endorses advocacy in all its forms.

The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) is one such agency that, among other things, uses information to affect change. WOLA is a leading research and advocacy organization that works to advance human rights in the Americas. It is a reputable and well-respected organization, and major news and other organizations rely on WOLA for its excellent research and advocacy work. The New York Times recently worked with WOLA for a front page article and video about the many unaccompanied minors who are attempting to migrate to the U.S.

United Methodist Women is a proud supporter of WOLA, and in wake of The New York Times article and video publication, WOLA wrote us a letter of thanks for the grant we awarded WOLA to support its communications capacity.

Kay Bailey, WOLA’s Institutional Partnerships Manager, wrote, “Your funding is what has helped us build this capacity, so this is your success. We are so grateful to have your support, and I’m so glad that our partners like The Times and those filmmakers are helping us keep people’s attention on the kids. ... The story and video demonstrate how general support funding can make all the difference in whether an organization is able to achieve its goals — an investment-in-institutional-capacity success story.”

We are proud to be able to assist organizations like WOLA, and thank the organization for the important work it does. With your Mission Giving, we will continue to be able to support WOLA and other organizations like it. We thank you, United Methodist Women members, for making this possible.
